Chivalrous Z Fencers Made a Difference!

Chivalry Day was an awe-inspiring and a gasp-inducing spectacle as our fencers pit their wits against fellow fencers, Maestros and Olympians. Best of all, we broke a new record in the amount raised for charity in our second year of this event!

The turnout at this one day family event, held on 17th May at our High Performance Centre, saw more than 150 attendees which made the event a fun-filled and memorable experience for all. Besides fencing for charity, members participated in voting for the two event highlights, namely Coach Ralf vs. Coach Joseph and Maestro TK vs. Maestro Teo. The duel from both matches gained such momentum and intensity that fans cheered hard till the end. The friendly matches were a reflection of the sportsmanship that fencers can have in making a difference for the 47 residents at Melrose Home- The Children’s Aid Society.

Another important and meaningful contribution for the event came from the parents who provided a delicious pot luck that lasted throughout the day. Ben & Jerry’s also made a presence by committing its sale of profits from the event to Melrose Home. It was a hit among the members as they got to enjoy the 5 most popular flavors at only S$4 (UP: S$4.90).

Chivalry Day concluded with the highly anticipated voters’ draw, early bird draw and lucky draw segment. The winners, who were handpicked by the Maestros and Ralf Bissdorf, walked away with attractive prizes which included complimentary private fencing lessons for the voters’ draw, Ralf’s autographed foil for the early bird draw and, S$500 worth of travel voucher as the first prize followed by cash prizes for the lucky draw.

And the total amount raised? We are proud to announce that we have surpassed our target of S$10,000 in achieving the highest-ever donated amount of S$10,800!

Z Fencing expresses our sincere gratitude to our members for your relentless support and generous contributions to make this fundraising event a successful one. We would also like to thank our corporate sponsor- Country Holidays, individual sponsors- Dolly Chan, Madalene Lauw and Ralf Bissdorf, the organizing committee – Dolly Chan, Felicia Poon and Gillian Tan and, all staff and coaches who volunteered their time to make this event possible. We are certain that our value-added contributions to Melrose Home will help greatly in making a positive difference for the 47 children.

The cheque donation will be presented to Melrose Home- The Children’s Aid Society at the upcoming Z Gala in August.
